In the 2015 NCHS, Steve Brown noted that AAFCO’s and the European equivalent nutritional requirements for dogs and cats are about half, if not one-third that of what the ancestral diet is. He also noted that the only way to achieve the same levels would be to feed 100% wild game and that there are very few pet parents who would have access to that. In the nutritional chart below we show you the AAFCO requirements for adult dogs and cats and note when our nutrient levels are double that of AAFCO.
